Movement (2025) – Lucy Baxendale

Porcelain with electronic components.

This experimental porcelain sculpture was especially created for the Made in the Middle touring exhibition. Unusually for a delicate ceramic artwork, it was made to be touched. The piece asks the audience to put their hand in the creature’s mouth to receive a personalised poem. The new works that Lucy developed for the exhibition are fun to play with, they invite discovery and create connections with audiences.
Over our 40 years we have given artists the time, space and freedom to take risks and develop their work. Nurturing their talents to create innovative works that engage audiences in new ways.
Nominated by: Saskia Boersma, Craftspace Board member

To celebrate Craftspace’s 40th Anniversary, we commissioned the artist Stewart Francis Easton to create an artwork which would explore the story of Craftspace through 40 objects. Stewart created a series of four beautiful graphic quilts. You can see them at MAC until 12 April.
