Tia is a textile artist.

Tia’s practice is inspired by the imagery and textures of the natural world. Producing abstract textile pieces, Tia uses screen-printing and embroidery to create different surfaces. Beginning her working process with mark-making, mood boards and mind maps, her work is inspired by personal stories of connections to nature, informing the visual identity created for each piece. Tia’s work explores the visual and textural depth that can be achieved through textile design processes, and used for printed fabrics and embroidered pieces for the fashion market.

Tia Parmar’s project, State of Joy, was inspired by the campaign led by Joy Fifer to protect Moseley Bog from demolition in the 1980s. Now a flourishing nature reserve accessible to all, Tia’s screen-printing and hand embroidery project invited people to contribute to an artwork to remember and preserve its story, and the unifying acts of local people to nurture and protect this green space for future generations.
